CWS Overview

The Corporate Work Study (CWS) program is a separately incorporated entity within a Cristo Rey school that places every student in a professional job five days a month, all four years of high school. At Cristo Rey OKC, students are employees of CWS, not of your company. Corporate Partners pay a competitive, annual service fee to the program for the students’ college preparatory education. CWS operates similarly to a temporary staffing agency with the explicit awareness and approval of relevant state agencies and the U.S. Department of Labor.

Cristo Rey Works for Businesses

The Corporate Work Study experience is a game-changer for our students. But our current slate of partners – including some of the most civically engaged in the metro – will attest that the students aren’t the only ones transformed by the partnership. The students improve employee morale, help to develop internal talent through supervisory and mentorship experience, and demonstrate a tangible and visible investment in developing a culturally and economically diverse workforce. Lastly, the students bring their unique and fresh perspective to all they do, and an eagerness to take on any task.

Real, value-added work

A Corporate Work Study partnership is not an internship or charity; instead, students often tackle special projects, provide administrative support, and take on many routine tasks that free up highly skilled employees to focus on their core duties

A winning solution

With a team of students costing less than one full-time employee, Cristo Rey’s student workers stabilize high-turnover positions, reduce burnout in full-time staff, and bring community engagement into workplaces.

Pipeline of diverse talent

Investing in talent today will help to develop OKC’s future workforce, and engagement from local businesses will provide greater potential for keeping a highly-educated, productive workforce in OKC.

Cristo Rey OKC Works for Students

Assuming the role of an employee-leasing agency, the Corporate Work Study Program has streamlined the process for employing students. Through a fee-for-service contract, paid quarterly, annually or monthly by the sponsoring organization, our students are employed through the Corporate Work Study Program and assigned jobs at our individual partners. Students work in a four-person, job-sharing team to fill one full-time equivalent position during standard daily business hours, Monday through Friday, for the entire academic year. Academic schedules are structured so that students work without ever missing class.

Work Schedule Example
Why 01

Summer Success

This is a two-week program for incoming students that takes place every summer before the academic year begins to ensure companies receive student workers ready to succeed in the workplace. During this time, students prepare to go to work in a professional setting and get an introduction to business concepts, technical skills, office equipment training, and professional presentation skills.

Why 02

CWS University

CROKC welcomes supervisors, mentors, and managers from our valued partners to Corporate Work Study University before each school year begins. During this time partners: network with peers from across our corporate partner organizations, explore potential projects, jobs, and tasks for student workers, learn from Cristo Rey OKC staff about maximizing the Corporate Work Study experience, discuss challenges and share best practices for working with high school students, and help shape the future of this transformative program

As organizations continuing to embrace the Corporate Work Study model, we have an opportunity to collaborate and enhance this unique professional development experience for our students.
